Report on Festival of Church Music 2013

festival-logo-2013On Sunday, November 3, 2013, the Church Music Institute sponsored its third Festival of Church Music featuring 350 singers from 19 church choirs in north and east Texas.

Paul Leddington Wright from Coventry, England, conducted anthems and led 1,500 in singing hymns accompanied by a brass ensemble and Mary Preston at the Lay Family Fisk organ. Composer Hal Hopson was honored for his many contributions to the song of the church. In addition to anthems by Hal Hopson, the choir sang compositions by Parry, Vaughan Williams, David McK. Williams, Stanford, Andre Thomas, Rutter, Widor and Tschesnokoff. Mary Preston played opening and closing voluntaries by Vierne, Franck and Widor.
