Composer Spotlight: M. Susan Brown

Marilyn Susan Brown has been composing since an early age. She graduated with honors from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in music theory and composition. At Mount Holyoke her composition A Latin Mass won the Phi Beta Kappa prize, and she was elected the Carolyn Murray Reyer Music Scholar. She earned master’s degrees in librarianship and accountancy at the University of Denver and a music performance degree from Yale University, where she was the Julia Loomis Havemeyer Scholar. Her compositions and arrangements have been performed all over the United States, Costa Rica, Portugal, Australia, and the Virgin Islands. Ms. Brown sings with St. Martin’s Chamber Choir in Denver, Colorado. She has numerous recordings of her works performed by St. Martin’s Chamber Choir, the Cathedral Choir of St. John’s in Denver (Delos label), and other outstanding choirs across the United States. She lives in the Denver area with her husband and dog, Pookie.
